A day out in Kuwait City - 30th Nov 2009

As capital cities of the world go, I wouldn't suggest Kuwait City as one that you simply must visit before you die.
But since it only cost about 45p on the bus, it was worth a few hours.
The weather was beautiful, pleasantly warm (T shirt only required) and sunny (about 25 deg C).
Here are some photographs of the highlights.

A view of Kuwait City's office area, the skyscraper second from the left
is Kuwait City Tower which will be 1381 feet high when finished.
(297 feet higher than the tallest freestanding structure in the UK,
good quiz question - which is the tallest in the UK?)

The Liberation Tower, begun before the invasion and completed after.
It is 1220 feet high

The entrance to the old souq (market)

Inside the souq, a proper bit of Arab culture

Another view inside the souq
with a view of the Liberation Tower

Down by the gulf,
a marina with fishing boats, they are actually used
eating fish is a big thing here.

Yet another cat, this one lives by the fishing marina and looks quite healthy,
probably gets lots of fish bits

Just along from the ancient looking boats,
the inevitable shopping mall, complete with Debenhams.

A view of the Kuwait Towers
They are actually water towers for the city

A shell damaged reminder of the invasion,
this must have been a significant building as they are going to restore it
