Highway Robbery in Withernwick

One reason we love Withernwick is that we get very little crime and we probably assume that the village as always been crime free.
But as we can see from the cutting from the Hull Daily Mail in 1823 that the village could be quite a dangerous place,.
So the idea of highway men roaming the village is quite shocking.
£1 13s 6d would have been a fairly large sum of money at that time and there was probably no chance of the crooks getting caught.
John Wray was born about 1796 and was the son of William and Ann Wray.
